NATO Advanced Research Workshop
Metamaterials for Secure Information and Communication Technologies

7-10 May, 2008, Marrakesh - Morocco

Distributed School on Metamaterials

11th Edition, May 5–6, 2008, Marrakesh, Morocco

Organised by: Metamorphose Network of Excellence, Metamorphose Virtual Institute and the University of Paris Sud

The European Doctoral Programmes on Metamaterials offers periodic courses on metamaterials to all interested students and researchers (not exclusively to Europeans). A Consortium initiated by the members of the European Network of Excellence METAMORPHOSE has been established to operate and support these courses.

11th Edition of the School

General synthesis of metamaterials and their modelling by ‎homogenization

The 11th Edition of the School will be held jointly with our conference and will offer a special course on Metamaterials and related materials and stuructures. The course will combine lectures by world's top specialists in the fields of Metamaterials and photonics, problem-solving and self-study sessions, and short presentations by the students.

Topic

The topic of this school is devoted to the general synthesis of metamaterials whose constituent ‎elements may have various shapes and properties. It is the goal of the school to discuss them and to ‎show how the constituent properties and designs affect the overall macroscopic behavior. Furthermore, ‎the macroscopic properties in some cases can be described in terms of homogenized quantities like ‎permittivity and permeability or refractive index and impedance. This topic is still largely debated ‎and we will show the various techniques available in the literature and their limits up to the most ‎recent advances in this debated field. Open discussions and interaction with the lecturers is an ‎important part of this focused school.‎
